Currently there is no industry that focuses solely on goalies. Niche markets that are part of larger industries are serving goalie needs. The primary markets include publications, coaching and training services and equipment/apparel. The GDI concept is the creation of an industry that is customer driven with the sole focus on goaltenders. By defining the industry as customer driven rather than production driven, a new goaltending industry is essentially created. The aggregation of niche markets is the key to this plan. Niche segments must be integrated together with the core focus of serving all needs and wants within the goaltending market.
Thus, the strategic backbone of GDI is an integrated concept. GDI will be positioned within the industry as the only provider of all goaltending products and services. Strategic success within this emerging industry calls for bold entrepreneurship. Inherent in GDI's business plan is the willingness to pioneer and take risks, an intuitive feel for what buyers will like, quick response to new developments, and opportunistic strategy making.
By pursing a strategy of integration and consolidation, there is the opportunity for GDI to realize great synergy. All GDI activities are part of a larger system. Strength does not solely reside within these separate entities. Instead, strength is found in the way these activities support and reinforce one another.
The benefits of this integrated approach are realized internally, within GDI, and externally, with GDI’s clientele. Not only do the products and services support one another with regard to complete skill development, synergy is created within all aspects of GDI’s operations by way of the entry and growth strategy, marketing initiatives, design and development plans and the overall synergy between niche departments.
